DOI: 10.33899/rjs.2006.43279

The effect of daonil and its combination with Paracetamol or oxytetracycline in glucose and cholesterol levels in blood of normal and alloxan induced diabetic rats were investigated. Diabetes induced by injection of (100 mg/Kg body weight) of alloxan . Daonil ( 1mg/Kg body Weight) showed reduction in the level of glucose in normal and dibetic rats. Neither combination of daonil with paracetamol nor with oxytetracyclin showed significant change in the hypoglycemic effect of daonil in normal and diabetic rats. Treatment with daonil caused significant decrease in cholesterol level in diabetic rats, but not in normal rats, while combination of daonil with oxytetracycline caused significant reduction in cholesterol level in normal rats, but not in diabetic rats. Combination of daonil with Paracetamol showed non significant effect in cholesterol level in normal and diabetic rats.
In conclusion the results of this study revealed, a beneficial effect of daonil treatment in insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, and its activity not affected by its combination with paracetamol or oxytertracycline.

DOI: 10.33899/rjs.2006.43281

The study included genetical analysis of the means for six generations namely P1, P2, F2, F3, BS1 and BS2 of two crosses in a six row barley (Jezera – 1 X Bendicat and Baraka X Arivate) to estimate the genetic parameters that control following traits: plant height grain yield, number of spikes per platnt, spike length, weight of 100 grains and number of grains per spike . The grains of the six generations were planted at Botanical experimental station, college of education, Mosul University in the growing season 2001-2002 using C.R.B.D. with four replications. The rasults indicated that three – parameter modol was adequate for number of spikes per plant in the second cross .

DOI: 10.33899/rjs.2006.43320

Mycological investigation of (100) samples of powdered milk collected from different food stores in Mosul city. During the period from June 2002 to October 2002, reviled that Aspergillus spp., and Penicillium spp were occurred at the concentration of 41.42 %, 47.14% for the Infant milk and 31.75 %, 55.55 % for the Adult milk respectively. To a lower order were Cladosporium herbarum, Geotrichium spp, Rhizopus stolonifer , Scopulariopsis spp . Aspergillus flavus was occurred at a rate of 22.86 % and 14.29 % in infant and adult milk samples respectively. Aflatoxin were detected in (6) A.flavus isolates (37.5 %) infant milk and in (2) A.flavus isolates (22.2 %) in adult milk samples. Aflatoxin B1 was estimated to be 18 ppb and 16 ppb in infant and adult milk A.flavus isolates and aflatoxins produced by them were discussed

Rafidain Journal of Science, 2006, Volume 17, Issue 2, Pages 26-38
DOI: 10.33899/rjs.2006.43322

The study aimed to investigate the biosynthesis of thymidine nucleotide by salvage and de novo pathways in the black seed (Nigella sativa L.) plant. The results indicated the absence of thymidine phosphorylase activity in the cell extract of black seed plant while dihydrofolate reductase was present. This may indicate that black seed cells depend on de novo pathway for dTMP synthesis.
Callus induction occurred on stem segments of Nigella sativa L. seedlings grown on Murashige and Skoog medium, containing 10-6M of 2,4-D .
Specific activity of dihydrofolate reductase and total folate content of black seed callus reached 24,13,8,4 and 3 folds than that found in seeds, roots, flowers, stems and leaves respectively.
Moreover, the results indicated an increase in the fresh weight with an increase in the cellular contents of proteins, nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) and folate extracted from callus of deferent ages. The specific activity of dihydrofolate reductase followed the same pattern of the cell components.

Modification of Rheological Properties of Asphalt by Treatment with Reclalaime Rubber from Scrap TiresEffect Modification Treatment on the Properties of the Modified Asphalt

Rafidain Journal of Science, 2006, Volume 17, Issue 2, Pages 39-46
DOI: 10.33899/rjs.2006.43323

Reclaimed rubber of scrap tires is added to modify the physical characteristics of asphalt in two manners. The first ones depends on combining the rubber molecule with some of the asphalt. The second one depends on the same principle in addition to adding sulphur to formulate sulpharized compounds. The out come of these asphalt patterns and their physical characteristics are specified. The results of this study indicate that these modified asphalt patterns are characterized by having little thermal sensitivity in comparison with unmodified normal asphalt.

The Effect of Outliers on the Regression Analysis Results with Application on the Premature Births

Farah A. Younis; Marwan A. Dabdoub

Rafidain Journal of Science, 2006, Volume 17, Issue 2, Pages 62-81
DOI: 10.33899/rjs.2006.43333

The outliers were founded as results of the regression analysis and also by box plot graph. The outlier values were tackled by trimmed mean.
The data about the life of premature births and other nine factors were collected from three records which represented by pre-blockade years 89-1990, the years 94-1995 which are under blockade and before memorandum of understanding and after memorandum of understanding the years 99-2000. A random sample of size 100 premature births were taken from each period.
It was found that the outliers affected regression analysis results, so it is necessary to search for outliers whenever regression analysis is needed.
The pregnancy period and the weight of premature had the major effect on his life in pre-blockade and after memorandum of understanding periods, before the period of memorandum of understanding two factors were added they were: period of nursery stay and type of disease that the premature births suffered from. The abortion cases increase in last period.

Rafidain Journal of Science, 2006, Volume 17, Issue 2, Pages 95-102
DOI: 10.33899/rjs.2006.43337

The aim of this work is to compose a gravitational electromagnetic tensor. We did that by a adding the metric tensor (g), which is diagonal, in to electromagnetic tensor (F) which is antisymmetric with zero diagnoal. We get a tensor invariant under the covariant transformation. This tensor has no difind symmetric properties, it’s line elements are similar to those of the metric tensor. It corresponds to the electromagnetic tensor in Mincowiski space.

Rubber compounds consist of group of initial materials mixed together then molded by compression to produce the final product. The effect of mixing time on the homogenity and mechanical properties for rubber compound type (MCG) was studied in this research. The samples under research were prepared in Jaber Bin Hayyan company. Using the roller and the mixer. The homogenity was studied using the idea of nuclear radation absorption while the mechanical properties was studied using the (Tera – test ) instrument. In this study it was found that the best time of mixing is (6) mint. using the mixer and (20) mint. using the roller.
